About Me

My name is Andy Thorne. I am married, with a fantastic wife, four beautiful girls,a German Shepherd, some hens and geese. I am a gardener and a landscaper. I work mainly in Wirral, also in Chester.

I started gardening when I was about 14 years old, looking after the garden for a family friend who was working away.  I soon collected some mowers and other tools and started building up a small round. My mower of choice was a Suffolk Colt – This became very familiar to me as I must have had around 15 of the things. I used to buy them, not running, for around £20 and take the decent bits off and cobble together a working one. I learnt everything there was to learn about them, all the engine parts, drive mech, cutters etc. It gave me a very good understanding of machinery that still helps me today, although, today breakdowns are very very rare 🙂

Learning

When I was 16 I left school with 6 Bs and 2 As at GCSE and went to the local technical college to do an OND in Construction, following which, instead of moving away to university I worked for 2 years in an electrical retailers. It was after this that I expanded the gardening business somewhat, as well as running a printing business, and doing a degree.
On completion of my degree, BSc (Hons) Broadcast Technology, which was not what I had been told it was 🙁 I threw myself into gardening full time.

Now

I have now been running the business for over 15 years and have gained much experience.
I am always striving to achieve more efficiency and higher standards, normally complete at least one professional qualification (such as Pesticide Application, Chainsaw use etc) a year and am continually researching methods of work and new machines.

Where we work

Andy Thorne Gardens Ltd are professional gardeners and landscapers based in Chester, Cheshire. We work across Wirral, Merseyside, Chester and NE Wales. We currently build and maintain beautiful gardens in and around Bebington, Bidston, Bromborough, Caldy, Childer Thornton, Gayton, Greasby, Heswall, Hoylake, Moreton, Neston, Newton, Noctorum, Parkgate, Pensby, Prenton, Saughall, Saughall Massie, Thingwall, Upton, West Kirby, Woodbank.

Our garden maintenance services include mowing and edging lawns, lawn care, hedgecutting, sweeping/blowing hard surfaces, weeding hard surfaces, application of systemic and residual weed killers, border maintenance, weeding, deadheading of flowers, along with general plant, shrub and tree care.

Our landscaping services include paving, planting schemes, turfing, drainage systems, driveways, fencing etc
